Logic is the study of formal languages and deductive reasoning with applications within philosophy, computer science and linguistics. The content of all courses in logic is mathematical in nautre, which means that a strong interest in reading mathematical texts is recommended in order to take the courses. The study of logic also includes mathematical philosophy, which is the study, within philosophy of science, of mathematics and its object of study. The courses in mathematical philosophy and the introductory courses in logic are well-suited as continuing education courses for teachers in either mathematics or philosophy. Most of the courses in logic can be taken as self-contained courses either part time or full time. Many can also be studied as distance courses. Contact the department for more information.
