Research profile seminar
CLASP seminar with Asad Sayeed, "The event as limit in scope ambiguity resolution".
In this talk, I outline a research question in the formalization of quantifier scope ambiguity: how such formalizations can be reconciled with psycholinguistic experiments in the incremental processing context? I provide an overview of the history of experimental results in the processing of simple scope ambiguities such as "Every kid climbed a tree" (Kurtzmann and McDonald, 1993, Dwivedi and Gibson, 2017, inter alia) and "Each of the men carried some boxes" (Patson and Warren, 2010) and suggest ways in which the neo-Davidsonian event variable can be employed as a structural element that conditionally limits the domain of scope ambiguity.
