Title: Social Science and Sustainable Transport Research

Abstract: The global challenges connected to the environmental and social impacts of the transportation sector, and the mobility of people and goods are substantial. In the light of the United Nations global goals for sustainable development, one may conclude that transport related issues affect several, if not all of them. For instance, goal 11, -sustainable cities and communities; there are ongoing projects and plans around the world trying to solve serious problems with congestion and air-pollution as a side effect of trends such as the urbanisation. There is also a rapidly growing implementation of new infrastructure, technology, and innovative mobility services, particularly in the cities. The talk will have a social science researcher perspective, and share some thoughts, as well as scientific results from transport related research on private car use and car sharing, with a theoretical base in environmental psychology.
