Research

My main areas of interest are sociophonetics, forensic phonetics and second language acquisition.

In 2014 I recorded the corpus SSG (Language Use in Stockholm and Gothenburg) together with Johan Gross. Adolescent informants were interviewed and completed a map-task together with a peer. This material is the basis of my thesis, and is also a first step in a phonetic description of the speech of urban adolescents. As a result of this, I have become more and more interested in English as a second language in Sweden.

My main phonetic interest at the moment is consonants, more specifically how we produce plosives depending on context, language and social factors.

I am interested in how we as linguists can collect acoustically useful data, which is also as 'natural' as is possible in a recording situation.

I am also interested in how much context a listener needs in order to correctly identify a speech sound, as well as how difficult it is to learn to produce unfamiliar sounds and what factors play a part in this learning process.

My previous research has dealt with speaker identification where shouted and spoken utterances have been compared, and the effects of heroin on voice and speech.
