About Elizabeth Coppock

Since 2012, I have been a researcher at the University of Gothenburg, in the department of Philosophy, Linguistics, and Theory of Science. As of July 2014, I am a fellow in the Pro Futura Scientia program funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond and arranged by the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study (SCAS) at Uppsala University. The University of Gothenburg remains my "home university", so I am now affiliated with both SCAS (Uppsala University) and the University of Gothenburg.

Before coming to Gothenburg, I held research and teaching positions at the Department of General Linguistics at Heinrich Heine University (Duesseldorf, Germany) and the Centre for Languages and Literature at Lund University (Lund, Sweden). I have also spent time in Austin, Texas, both at Cycorp, Inc., and at the Linguistics Department at the University of Texas at Austin.

I received a B.A. in Linguistics from Northwestern University in 2002 and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Stanford University in 2009. I became Docent in Linguistics through the University of Gothenburg in December 2013.

Current Projects

I am the project leader of a Swedish Research Council-funded project entitled "Most and more: Quantity superlatives in different languages". The goal is to understand cross-linguistic variation in the structure and interpretation of quantity superlatives like English (the) most, with particular emphasis on the role of definiteness.

For more detailed and up-to-date information about my current and previous research, as well as downloadable papers, please see my external webpage.
