About David Brax

Post doc at the Centre for European Research, University of Gothenburg (CERGU)

I did my PhD at the Department of Philosophy, Lund University, with the dissertation "Hedonism as the Explanation of Value". I have worked at the University of Gothenburg since 2010.

Research

My research focuses on philosophical aspects of hate crime and hate crime legislation. 2011-2013 I was part of the EU-funded research project "When Law and Hate Collide". Since 2014, I've been working on the post doc project "Hate Crime Legislation in Europe", located at the centre for European Research (CERGU).

Other interest: Philosophy of Law, Meta-ethics, Political Philosophy, Moral Psychology, Philosophy of Mind

Teaching

During the spring 2016, I teach an advanced course in practical philosophy on the philosophy of hate crime. I also do guest lectures at the law departments in Gothenburg and Uppsala.

Media

For the last few years, I've quite frequently commented on hate crime issues (court cases, legislative issues, policy issues) in the media. A list of my appearances (most in Swedish, but a few in english) are available here.

Affiliations

I'm part of the Gothenburg Responsibility Project, the Centre for Law, Ethics and Mental Helath (CELAM) and a member of the International Advisory Board for the International Network for Hate Studies.
